ABOUT IPPF SOUTH ASIA REGIONAL OFFICE
The International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) is a global healthcare provider and a leading advocate of sexual and reproductive health and rights for all. We are a worldwide federation of national organizations working with and for communities and individuals in more than 160 countries. We emerged out of a volunteer led social movement in the 1950s demanding the right of women to have control over their fertility. Know more about the history of the Federation.
We work to ensure people are free to make choices about their sexuality and well-being, in a world without discrimination.
We work towards a world where women, men and young people everywhere have control over their own bodies. A world where they are free to choose parenthood or not; free to decide how many children they will have and when; free to pursue healthy sexual lives without fear of unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections, including HIV. A world where gender or sexuality are no longer a source of discrimination or stigma.
IPPF South Asia Regional Office (SARO) is one of the six regional networks of International Planned Parenthood Federation. The staff at SARO is based in Bangkok, Thailand and New Delhi, India. In the region, we work in nine countries – Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka through the Member Associations (MA) -- IPPF accredited organizations-- and collaborative partner.
In the South Asia region, which has its own unique challenges and opportunities, we advocate with governments to ensure they fulfil their commitments towards sexual reproductive and health rights for all. We support our MAs to educate young people to make informed, safer choices about their sexual health and well-being. We stand for protection of women and girls against reproductive bullying. Our MA provides medical services, counselling and support to those in need, even during humanitarian emergencies. We along with our volunteers and the Member Associations work to bring to life our vision: From choice, a world of possibilities.
